Many thanks for those of you who messaged with suggestions for cooling music to take the edge off the heat. Perhaps unsurprisingly, most went for songs or pieces that either directly described chilliness or had the chilliness in their titles. Here are a handful: John M went with a bit of cold-war-era Elton John, Nikita. […]
Waking to sweltering temperatures in the UK this week has been a shocking reminder of that bike trip I took back in 2023, when it was frequently into the mid-thirties by sun-up, and soaring ever higher thereafter. Georgia and Florida, on a bike, were almost intolerable. Naturally, I had to find ways to mitigate this […]
Anyone who followed my bike ride down the US Eastern Seaboard, and anyone who’s read the book that followed, will know that in Savannah, Georgia, I had an unfortunate incident involving my handlebar bag. (SPOILER ALERT – look away now if you’re reading Second Breakfast In America but haven’t got to that bit yet) Incident […]
Air Studios in Hampstead is an incredible building. It sits right at the junction of Lyndhurst Rd and Haverstock Hill, on a site with a real estate value that must be just mind-boggling. But what’s even more remarkable than its location, its impressive scale and beautiful interior, is the acoustic. It’s just ridiculously good, for […]
Do You Remember America? Dear friends, I’m thrilled to announce that my new travel book, Second Breakfast In America, is out today! It’s been a long road, in every way, to reach this point, but publication day has finally arrived. Second Breakfast In America is a free-wheeling, action-packed adventure through nine US states (and two […]
I was back in 🍁 Canada 🇨🇦 last week with Susie and our son Jake for a very short visit, but minus a bicycle. The brutal snowstorm of a couple of days ago, that hit many of the places I cycled through in 2023 from Maine to North Carolina, thankfully missed Toronto entirely. We did […]
Wishing everybody everywhere Season’s Greetings for a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year! Thank you all so much for your continued support, and look out for news of the release of my new book, SECOND BREAKFAST IN AMERICA, early in 2026.
Alright, yes, I’d said goodbye to everyone for a while, but then today happened and I had to add a few lines as a postscript. I got to this isolated and peaceful spot between Fishguard and St David’s by car – yes, I do have a car – but the bike is still here too, […]
Tagoat to Fishguard It was a damp start at the campground, which was not forecast, and even damper when I arrived at Rosslare harbour and joined the queue of motorcycles waiting to board the ferry. English motorcyclists at ferry ports have this tendency to only say hello to a cyclist like me in a fairly […]
Clonea to Tagoat 65 miles I was so sad to leave Casey’s, one of the friendliest campgrounds I think I’ve ever visited (and there have been a few), but a long ride beckoned, beginning with the now-familiar 30 mile spin along the greenway. I did make a stop at the highest point above the sea […]
