Since I’m leaving for Canada in the morning, I thought this might be a good moment to give the official Incidents Of Travel Theme Tune a fresh airing: Never On A Sunday, by Percy Faith & His Orchestra. Chosen because whilst touring I usually cycle for 6 days a week and take the seventh day off, and also because it’s about the most cheerful and energetic tune you could ever hope to hear. It provides me with a bit of a lift when my legs (and other parts) get weary. I think my favourite cyclist, Jacques Tati, would enjoy cycling to this. I hope you feel the same way about it!

I love the page of my blog that tells me which countries have visited the website that day! Here are today’s border-crossing stats, and if you’re one of them, thank you, and do let me know what you’re up to out there (who’s in Vietnam??)

Bike all dismantled and packed up – see you in Nova Scotia tomorrow! Bx
It’s come round fast! I won’t say ‘break a leg’ in this context, and Max and Livvy always struggle with it so they’ve adapted it to ‘stretch a leg’.
Stretch a leg!!!

Stretch a leg! That’s perfect, and thanks to M&L for inventing such a helpful wish! Bx

Ha – fell off after 50 miles and got back on my bike to complete the next 50 with gashes and grazes. Saved the long route til next year…

Yikes! I’ve had a few of those. I expect you had a few bad nights after that. All ok now?

I’m a regular at the minor injuries clinic in Lichfield – my elbow is still full of gunk and refusing to heal. Take care on your travels – staying upright is easy until suddenly it’s not!

That’s rough – really sorry to hear that David. Chapeau for riding 50 miles afterwards though! I hope the arm recovers soon. I’m guessing that you’re off the bike – in a planned way – for a bit? I once had a bike club member grab my arm after a fall on ice, and pull the bits of gravel out of it. It hurt like hell, but he said ‘Stop complaining, you’ll thank me tomorrow’ and he was right.

Wishing you all the very best, dear Ben, as you set off for your latest great adventure.
Pull gentle slowly, do not snatch in hoorey, but maybe that’s what you have to do, what would I know about anything? So, go well and safely, greet the mornings and celebrate the evenings, and we’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when… And all power to your elbow.
Love Dad xxx

Thanks so much Dad. I’ll be sure to carry those thoughts with me when I get going on Friday, which looks like it might be a rather soggy start to the trip! Bxx

Ha! Thanks so much both of you. Got a feeling it might not be the best night’s sleep either. I just want to get going now!

All the very best, Ben, for this hugely ambitious adventure. I hereby vow to go out on my bike every single day you are cycling and do a very few kilometres in and around Bristol as a weak but willing bike buddy UK. Glad to read today of the Sunday Day Off!
