The Aimless Tour Of Southern Ireland: Day 8 – Tagoat campground to Fishguard, via the ferry at Rosslare

Just a short wrapping-up post today. It was a really beautiful morning, but with a crazily heavy dew, so I had to pack everything up pretty wet.

The camp lake, where the Boy Scouts go nuts every day.

It was just 6km to the ferry along the busy N25. It’s still only single lane though, and has an excellent bike lane. If you don’t mind the lack of peace, it would be a great way to get quickly by bike across Ireland to the west. I’m thinking about perhaps doing that one day, then coming back slowly along the coastline I didn’t manage to see this time…

Ferry Day – Is there a better sight on a travel day?
I was waved to the front of every queue, and was boarded first, even before the motorbikes behind me had started their engines.
2nd Breakfast ✅. – Isn’t that scurvy grass growing in the window? What kind of trip are they planning?

Up on deck I watched as Rosslare Harbour drifted away.

Luckily for me, the Duty Free shop had a great selection of Irish gifts, but the extra weight of this bag (Irish Gin seems particularly hefty) will make the last steep hill out of Fishguard up to the car a bit of a challenge. But then all great sporting achievements come with great sacrifice, and I will give it everything I have.

Gifts – ✅ Look away now, family. You haven’t seen these, right?’ ☝️ 👃

Sign That Is Funny

The very last of the trip. It’s been a blast. Have a lovely summer everyone, whatever you do, and wherever you are. Ben ❤️

This cracker came at 6.30am, just before getting to the port, as if passing tourists might be thinking ‘Oh no, we didn’t get a gift for Aunty Joan! Wait! What’s that sign say?…’

    1. Thank you Penny, and great to hear that it set you thinking about trip of your own! Everyone raves about Dingle and the mountains, and I’d love to go one day, but I really enjoyed the quieter beauty of Wexford and Waterford, and the gems along the way – villages, pubs, people! Have a great summer. Bx
