Day 39 – Free day in Yemassee

And it was just that, a free day at a motel in Yemassee. I did almost nothing except wander over to the lobby for breakfast, then sit with my coffee in the lobby talking to the manager about classical Indian music and swapping favourite musicians. You never know when you’re going to find an interesting conversation about music.

Then I wrote for while (believe it or not I’m also working on a book whilst I’m here), dozed, watched a movie, but most of all I just sat out the heat. It was an absolute belter, the hottest so far I suspect, complete with severe heat warnings, and the perfect day to be doing nothing. The weather broke during the night and a thunderstorm passed through, which meant the temperatures for my pre-dawn ride towards Savannah, Georgia would be even cooler than expected.

I have one clip to share with you, sent to me by Susie. It’s our Sam demonstrating his bike handling skills on the beaches of Spurn Point. It’s very like parts of my ride the other morning when the road I was following turned into a sand and gravel beach, shortly before becoming a total dead end. This didn’t bother Google maps in the slightest, insisting that I continue. HOWEVER I’m currently in a restaurant a few miles from Savannah and the video won’t upload! Soz. I’ll try again later. X

  1. Haha I’d better start getting in shape in that case… Although crossing the Sahara would be dead easy with all that Spurn beach-cycling practice 😉
    Lots of love xx
